Pets have to be treated on par with the human beings. Many people neglect their pets and this attracts unwanted troubles. The pets are very sensitive in nature and you need to know how to behave with them in order to keep them happy. You need to keep them clean and tidy. In the absence of this, the pets would appear very dirty and invite diseases. Pets like dogs should be washed each day and even taken for vaccination in order to prevent rabies.

Many a times it is seen that the dogs develop a disease which may lead to early death of dogs. A timely precaution can help in increasing the life span of omes pet. You also need to take your pet to regular medical examination in order to know if there are any health problems. Apart from this you need to keep the pet busy by involving it in various physical activities such as outdoor fetch games and interaction with other dogs. You can teach them to run, swim and do various jobs for you as a way to keep them fit.

The pets do understand the language of the human beings and can be taught many things which would enhance their capabilities. There are various training programs available for the pets which would be very useful in making them active. Pets are very different from the animals you find in the forest and therefore have to be treated differently. Never be violent with them. Love them and they will surely return it to you in future.

The UK is a nation of animal lovers, and it’s also home to many a bargain hunter. With rising costs all around, it should come as no surprise to find that people are shunning regular pet stores and are searching instead for cheaper alternatives. As with most things, the best solutions can be found on the internet.

Online pet stores are hugely popular these days because you can get hold of pretty much anything and it won’t cost you a huge amount. While regular shops are somewhat limited in terms of the stock they can carry, it’s certainly not the case on the net. Basically you can browse through a huge selection of items for a vast array of different animals and then pay less for whatever you find.

Monster Pet Supplies is a hugely popular online pet shop UK wide and is home to an immense amount of bargains. A low price guarantee ensures that the 20,000 different items it stocks are the cheapest around, and that’s music to the ears of any animal owner. Getting more for your money is very easy, and considering all major brands are available, your pet will think Christmas has come early.

But it’s not just low prices and a vast selection that make shopping online the best thing to do, there’s also the small matter of shipping. Usually you’d have to dash out to the shops if you suddenly find you’re out of things like food or medicine, but with a range of home delivery options you simply place an order and then wait for the doorbell to ring. Buying in bulk isn’t a problem and you can even order in advance if you see supplies are getting low.

So it’s abundantly clear that visiting online pet stores will allow you to get big name brands for less of the cost, and remove the need to turn up to a store in person. You can afford to give your animal the very best, and that’s all that matters!

Most of us show positive signs and attitude towards having pets at home without knowing the responsibilities involved. If you have a dog or a cat at home and you feed it regularly, and you think that is all you had to do, you are wrong. There is much more to just feeding you pet every day. You need to a have a passion towards growing a pet at your home. Once you have bought them home, the immediate steps that need to be done is their dwelling. Think twice before taking them home, but once you have decided yes, do it with care and concern. There are many things you need to do for them, such as give them food, put them to sleep, give bath to them and train them basic routine habits. Giving adequate food and water is the prior duty and it is always good to maintain a regular time schedule every day.

You are supposed to make sure that your environment is pet friendly, otherwise make the essential arrangements so that they do. To do so, you can find out tips from certain books, which are exclusively written on how to take care of your pet. You have to take your pet to a veterinary doctor for a general checkup every month. The doctor will be able to guide you with the basic caring tips, which you have to strictly follow every day.

If you have children at home, you are supposed to explain them how friendly should they be with the pets. Avoid punishing your pets, as they have the same feelings as we have. Love them and they will love you forever.

Your little girl has been whining about how much she wants a pet for her birthday. Sure, you could go the free route by setting a trap in your backyard to catch a rabbit or you could just put a bowl of milk and sleeping pills on the porch to catch a kitty, but you’re willing to shed some major bucks to keep your precious daughter happy.

If you’re serious about showing your little girl how much she is worth, then check out some of the most expensive pets in classifieds for 2011. You might want to reconsider your options.

Animal: Female F1 Savannah cat

Price: $7,000

There’s no disputing the beauty of a Savannah cat with perfect markings. This hybrid is a cross between a domestic house cat and a serval. In case you’re not familiar, servals are wild cats found in Africa. They are closely related to lions.

This particular female sells for $7,000 because she has the distinguished markings of the serval and the cute ears of a house cat. She’s as close to the perfect combination as you will ever see, unless you are a serious cat breeder.

The F1 here refers to the number of generations (F1 stands for filial 1, which might mean something to you if you paid really close attention during biology class). Since this cat is a first generation Savannah cat, she is 50 percent house cat and 50 percent serval.

Not quite willing to drop $7,000? You can get her F1 male counterpart for $5,000. Or you can go on the cheap with a $2,500 F4 male. He’s still pretty, but your little connoisseur will almost certainly spot the difference when she rips open her birthday present and finds a cat that isn’t 50 percent feral.

Animal: Small Pot-Bellied Pig

Price: $4,000

Weird things start happening to animals when humans think that they are cute. We just can’t leave their genetics alone. Take the pot bellied pig, for instance. Once you start to see them as cute, you can’t help but wonder how you could make them even cuter. Voila, that’s how you come up with the idea to breed a teeny, tiny piglet that’s too small to even call “toy.”

This $4,000 piggy only weighed a little more than one pound at eight weeks old. Too small to compete for food, her owners were forced to sell her. When you have a super-cute one-pound pot bellied pig, though, you don’t give it away for free. You slap a big price tag on her and sell her online so that eager-to-please parents like you pay up to keep their kids pleased.

Animal: Male Vervet Monkey

Price: $2,500

$2,500 is a lot of money to spend on a pet, but we’re talking about a monkey here! A real, live pet monkey that you can have in your own home. According to his owner, this little guy enjoys playing and drinking from his bottle. He also wears a diaper.

The whole diaper thing sounds convenient, unless you’ve ever been around a pet monkey for more than a few minutes at a time. Many of them like to use their poop as weapons by reaching into the diaper and hurling whatever they happen to find at the nearest object (which could be you). The real price of the vervet monkey, therefore, isn’t the $2,500 that you pay upfront.

It’s the cleaning bills that you will have to pay for the next few decades. Then you also might have to worry about legal bills since monkeys aren’t legal to keep as pets in some states. But, hey, anything to keep your little angel happy!

Animal: Baby Male Camel

Price: $5,500

If your kids love the circus, then consider buying them their very own camel. Camels are pretty fun, right? They spit, move their lips in a funny way, and can wander for days without taking a single drink of water. $5,500 will get you a baby male bactrian camel. That’s the kind with two humps on its back.

He’s small and cuddly right now, but he’ll grow up to be a real worker. Camels are used all over the world to transport goods, trek over long distances, and traverse deserts. Cuddle up with him now and find a career in him later. Eventually, you’ll get your investment back!

Animal: Morgan horse colt

Price: $20,000

Your little girl doesn’t want a pony. Ponies are for suckers. She’s thinking long-term, so she wants a horse that can kick some butt at the Kentucky Derby. Sigh; prepare to drop a lot of cash to keep her happy. How about $20,000 for a Morgan colt? Sound expensive? Well, he has a great pedigree and shows plenty of talent.

After you pay for board and training (let’s say about $5,000 per week for the kind of trainer that you’ll need to have any kind of shot at winning major competitions), the $20,000 you spent buying the horse won’t look so bad.

IN CONCLUSION

When your kids have a taste for the exotic, you have to up your game by finding pets that will truly impress them. Forget about purebred dogs. Real connoisseurs interested in expensive animals will always go for half-feral cats, the tiniest of tiny pigs, poop-flinging monkeys, cuddly camels, and hard-running horses.

This year, keep your demanding daughter happy with one of the most expensive pets that you can find in the classifieds. That way, you’ll know that you’ve done your job as a parent and she’ll finally have something to take to show and tell.

Pets health care is one of the most important aspects in today’s life for those who own any kind of pets at home. This is because there are very few health centers that take care of the pet health issues. With the few options available, the owners of these pets find it extremely difficult to take good care of their pets.

It is quite common to see the pets’ falling ill when proper care is not taken. Many a times it could lead to an unmanageable situation and lead to emergencies. Being an owner of the pet you need to understand the importance of a periodical health check up of these pets and ensure that it doesn’t often lead to emergency. If you can take your pet to periodical checkups it might help the doctor to diagnose the problem early and suggest proper treatment.

Over the years the importance of pets health care is gradually increasing and we may see more facilities in the near future that would prevent health hazards. Different countries have various facilities for taking care of the pets and United States of America is known for best amenities. The reason for this is because the majority of USpopulation owns pets and therefore it is imperative to have a proper infrastructure to cater to the medical needs of the pets.

The owners of the pets need to understand that the health care of the animals is as important as that of the human beings. Proper take will help the pets to be healthy

Female dogs are in heat once or twice a year. Dog owners often cannot detect the signs. Female dogs start getting heat cycles with six months of their birth. Quite amazing. A heat cycle is also called the estrus cycle. Most female dogs reach this stage when they are twelve months or older.

Almost all female dogs have the same heat cycle period. A heat cycle period starts at six months. Or every six months. Which may translate into two heat cycles in a year. A heat cycle goes on for about a month, or close to four weeks. .

When a female dog is in heat, there is bleeding in the vaginal region. The dog will urinate frequently. Another sign is when male dogs will start to become close to the female dog. This is a clear indication of the beginning of the heat cycle in a female dog. During this time, the female dog might not be inclined to it, and will fiercely battle the male dogs away.

During the estrus cycle, the female dog will know that its eggs are ready to be fertilized. At this stage, t will allow the male dog to mate it.

When you know your dog is in heat you can spay your female dog to control overpopulation problems. Spaying is a safe surgery. Spaying is done surgically through the abdomen. It is a common surgery performed extensively across the world.

Spaying is actually disabling a dog’s ability to reproduce. It is a very subjective thing, and is left to the dog owner to decide whether it needs to be done or not considered at all.

People tend to think that a growling puppy is charming. Or a puppy that bits at fingers is amusing. Even better, a puppy that shows its teeth when coming close to its food is thrilling. All these behaviors are fine. But when the puppies grow into full blown dogs, things could get difficult to manage.

The best time to manage an aggressive dog is when it is young. You cannot tame a fully grown aggressive dog. You can only subdue it. Aggressive dogs are always a threat to even inmates. Their unpredictability is fearsome.Puppies that show early signs of dominance need to be tamed. If they are left as it is, they are going to be aggressive to family members, and deadly toward strangers. Such aggression of dominance has to be controlled from the onset itself.

You need to teach the dog to obey your command. This can be done through step-by-step learning phases. Make your dog do exercises, and reward your dog with food with successful completion of each repetition of an exercise. Food can motivate the dog to actually do the exercise.

Teach your dog to mind you and not the external environment. Prod it to follow your orders. When it gets distracted, try to make the dog mind you. Do this regularly and you will the results. How do you find out if a dog is dominant?

A dominant dog will actually try to sleep in the same bed as you. You might find it to be love, but it is not. A dominant dog will also not allow anyone through the doors or stairs, as it will be the first one.

We would like to applaud you for your interest in buying a dog. Like a new born, a puppy always brings oodles of young and innocent energy into a household. Dogs give so much life to an otherwise dull household. They most often than not become indispensable members of a household.

But you need to consider this. What type of dog do you want to have? Don’t you think it will be wise to have a breed of dog that suits you? For example, if you are living in a cramped apartment, where there is little space, you can’t expect to get a breed of dog that loves large spaces to live here. You might be subduing its biological tendency to love large spaces. Which is actually not the right thing to do. At least for humanitarian…well dog-tarian purposes!

If you are looking for a lap dog, then don’t buy a huge Saint Bernard. Or a Doberman. Needless to say about Alsatians. If you want something that will cuddle up into any space you give it, go for cocker spaniels, and Pomeranians. You can consult a dog expert; you can give you advice on the ways of dogs. So many people make the mistake of buying dogs that do not suit them or the environment they live in. This is harrowing not only for the dog, but for the owners of the dog.

If you have kids in the house, you need to consider buying a dog that is not aggressive. Aggressive dogs might snap at kids. We never know. They are always an uncomfortable presence around kids.

If you are one of the parents that gave in when your kids were begging for a dog, there are some things you need to do to ensure your dog does not become a threat to your family or anyone else. Dogs can be put down if they cause injury to humans, so the proper training and precautions should be taken to ensure your dog is friendly and will not bite.

If you do not take the time to train your dog, or you let them get away with too much, there could be issues for you down the road. For instance, if your dog is being bullied by a neighborhood child and decides to nip them, you might be faced with a lawsuit. This can be costly and stressful, and you will need to consult with an attorney. More than likely, this will not be the first accident injury Los Angeles California attorneys have seen, so they should be able to help you through the process and know your options.

You should begin training your new dog to be friendly and respectful of humans as soon as you get him. Biting or nipping should never be tolerated. Training takes a lot of time and effort, but it is necessary in order to have a well-behaved dog that is no threat to humans. You can hire a dog trainer if you need a little extra help or take your dog to obedience school. Kids should also be involved with the training because it will help the dog know that he needs to do what all humans request.

Many believe that training a bull terrier is an arduous task. On the contrary, with an effective training program and a balance between discipline and motivation, the dog will become an excellent companion that obeys his master. Remember that dogs don’t respond well to excessive negativity, so keep it to a minimum.

Before training begins, it’s important to know the dog. Bull terriers are active and playful, but they can be stubborn. They become easily attached to families and are excellent with children. However, sometimes proper training requires professionals. You can locate trainers through Canada 411.

Whether you’re using a trainer or are implementing a training program on your own, the first step is housebreaking the dog. The key is to confine the bull terrier so it does not mark in the wrong places. Give the dog access to the right place to complete its business. Until the animal is completely housebroken, it should not be allowed to walk freely around the home.

Another important aspect of training is helping the dog feel comfortable around people and other dogs. The proper term is “puppy socialization,” and it should be implemented between seven weeks and six months. Furthermore, adolescent socialization training must be integrated between six and nine months. For adult bull terriers, it may be difficult to change their attitudes, but socialization can allow you to control their behavior.

During the training, it is important to ensure your bull terrier knows that you are in charge. All dogs need a firm hand and patience. You can develop a close relationship with your bull terrier and he’ll be your companion for life.

Puppies are always welcome entries into a household. They bring a lot of mirth, and joy. Cute to look at, puppies are a refreshing way to keep children interested and also stay at home! Much like babies, puppies too need good care. If you have a puppy which does not have its biological mother with it, you need to take the utmost care of it.

Puppies have high morbidity rate because they can’t express themselves like human babies do. Their sounds of uneasiness might be mistaken as general animal noise. So many people miss out on reading the symptoms of a puppy in distress.
After feeding the puppy, stroke them gently. This keeps them warm and also aids in their digestion. They may also need some of the stroking to urge them to eat. If you have seen how a dog licks its new born puppy you would know the reason why it’s doing this.

You need to bathe the puppy in lukewarm water. This activity increases blood circulation in the puppy. The puppy might have cold limbs, which can loosen up a little with a healthy warm bath. Use a soft towel to soak the water from the puppy’s body. Don’t use a heavy towel, as you might suffocate the puppy.

Don’t every use soap. Use plain lukewarm water. Soap might contain chemicals which might get into the mouth of the puppy. So avoid this as far as possible. Give them moist food to chew. Don’t make them chew hard food. As they grow, they will develop teeth. When this happens, you can mix some hard food with some moist food.

Fighting like cats and dogs goes the adage. Truly, cats and dogs can’t see eye to eye. The enmity between them is legendary like the French and the English. Yet they have been domesticated over centuries by humans.

Dogs just hate cats. Not sure if its true the other way round. But if you can find a way to introduce a cat into a house with a dog, there could be a long-lasting friendship between the two animals. So how’d you do it?

When you bring the cat into a house, do not expose it to the dog right away. The dog might kill the cat. In fact, the dog will kill it. Set up a room where you can quarantine the cat safely away from the dog. Do this for about a week. Let the cat stay there.

Let the cat settle in first. Get the cat accustomed to the surroundings. A dog will imminently realize that there is a stranger cat in the room. You can fool the blood-smelling Dracula, but not the average dog. Once you have settled the cat in, your cat should start settling to you. The signs of which are if it comes to you, and not hide about.

Now is the time to introduce the cat to the dog. When doing this, please do leash your dog. Or at least put it in a cage. As you do this, walk the cat about. You will hear sonorous and thundering barks. The cat might get dazed, but keep the cat in good humor by petting it and moving it about.

Once they sniff each other, the job’s done.

Dog’s attack when they feel attacked. Otherwise they are just OK. When you enter their territory, it’s their biological tendency to drive you away. However small or big a dog may be, it’s basic instincts are pretty much the same.

Bad owners create bad dogs. Improper training can make a dog rogue. When you look at a dog, don’t smile. Smiling is showing your teeth. Showing teeth is a sign of aggression. Haven’t you notices how a dog shows its teeth to another during a fight. Showing teeth indicates “I have my weapons ready (teeth). I can bite you.”

Don’t go next to chained dogs. They might have been chained for a purpose. Only their owners might know how to handle them. Even if you are familiar with the dog, you should keep your distance. Chained dogs are always aggressive. They do not like to be chained because it restricts their movement. And if you come close to them, they might snap.

Don’t panic when seeing a ferocious dog. Dog’s sense fear very well. Put up a brave disposition. Remain calm and sangfroid. Don’t make sudden movements. Don’t try to shoo the dog away. Walk steadily, and as if you don’t care – “Let barking dogs bark”!

Finding pet-friendly apartments can be a rough job. In fact, in some areas it is almost impossible. This is a very stressful prospect for those who have four-legged friends. It can be a devastating thought to consider leaving your pets behind if you need to get a new apartment. There are some things to consider when looking for a pet-friendly apartment, though.

1) When you look at adds, don’t give up just because they don’t say anything about pets. Just because they don’t say anything doesn’t mean that you can’t have your pooch move in. When looking at apartments for rent, you need to look at what works for you, as well as what they do or do not say about pets. Add the ones without any info on the subject to your list.

2) Call and talk to the landlord or manager of the apartments. Sometimes, these people will be willing to allow your dog if you pay an extra deposit or a little extra each month. In many cases, you won’t know this until you call and ask. It can’t hurt to make the call. It can only help you in the long run.

3) Ask friends and family. You may know someone who has an inside scoop on finding dog-friendly apartments. If you know someone who has gone through this search themselves, they may know a landlord or rental company that allows pets.

Though it can be difficult to find the perfect apartment that will allow you to keep your dog with you, it is definitely not impossible.

The households that have pet share a very special bond with their pets. They treat the pets as a part of their family and thus the pets are very valuable for them. These families love, feed and protect their pets. The pets are animals at the end of the day and they do suffer health problems like any other normal human being.

The pets are animals and they cannot speak or communicate their health problems to the owner, the pets have to suffer silently and they just appear weak when they suffer from any health problems. Therefore it is very important to keep the pets protected from the diseases they are prone to. The owner of the pet must understand when the pet appears lethargic and shows no interest in the food provided to them.

There are some diseases that appear instantly and are traceable while there are other diseases which one cannot understand for a long time. This is the reason the pets should be taken care of specially and any change in their behavioural patterns must be taken seriously and a vet should be consulted. Other than this like the human kids the pets must also be taken to the vet doctors for regular checkups, they must be provided with regular immunisation and given healthy food. One should also take care of the physical injuries that the pet might get while playing around, sometimes these minor injuries might turn up into fatal diseases. Therefore the injuries must be treated immediately, the vet should be consulted and vaccines should be provided if needed.

There are some health problems that can be caused by pets, but there are many situations when the pets are the ones that are seen to be suffering from various diseases. It is very important for the pets to be cared so that they do not suffer from diseases. In spite of all the care that is given to pets, they are likely to suffer from some kind of disease at one point of time. It is very important that these diseases are diagnosed as early as possible so that the pets are treated early. Early treatment of the diseases in pets will prevent any lasting damage to the health of the pet.

Vomiting is the common health problem seen in many pets. When there is vomiting, the pet should be given adequate fluids so that the pet animal does not get dehydrated. There are situations where the pet may not only be suffering from vomiting, but may also have diarrhoea at the same time. This is a great cause for concern. Many animals that have this problem may even die because of the dehydration, if they are not treated properly.

There are less severe health problems that could affect the pets too. These could be injuries, eye problems and other such conditions. There could be very severe problems too that affect the pets. These could range from encephalitis and hypoglycemia to stroke. Many of these severe problems can cause the pets to die if they are not taken care of immediately. So, the owner of the pets should keep a careful watch to identify any early signs of disease and then take proper care of these animals so that it is not fatal.

Pets are kept in pet shelters in many situations. This is true in cities where people are not able to ask a friend to take care of a pet because of the busy life schedule. The only option that is left for many pet owners is to leave the pets in pet shelters. This could be a good option if not for the fact that the pet shelters are the places where many of the animals contract various chronic diseases.

The pets in the pet shelters are given a lot of care, but the truth remains that they are usually places where infections are harbored and transferred. These pet shelters have animals that come from various backgrounds. Some of the pets living there may have been in abusive environments. There are other pets that may have lived in an unclean atmosphere and could have contracted a disease. When this animal is placed in the pet shelter where other healthy animals are also living, then the infection can be transferred from the sick animal to the healthy pets.

Death is common in some animals that have poor immunity, after an infection. If the animal is healthy, then it can suffer from some kind of problem or other. To prevent this, the pets should not be placed in pet shelters as much as possible. Even if the pets have to be placed in pet shelters, the owner of the pet needs to make sure that there is no disease in the pet, by consulting a vet. In case any diseases are present, the diagnosis of the disease at an early stage will help to overcome any fatalities and severe health problems in the pets.

All those who are having pet cats in the house may have noticed their cats kneading. If you have noticed this at one point or another, the common thought that occurs in the person is to think if the cat is nervous. There are many signs of mental disease in animals. These diseases could range from mild depression to more severe forms of the disease. This is what pet owners will think if their pet is kneading. The truth is that for cats, kneading is a common activity that does not signify the presence of any disease, but only tells that the cat is playing or happy.

There are various situations in which pet cats will knead. The most common activity that the cats do is kneading. The cat will start playing with any cloth as if it is kneading it. This kneading movement is as humans knead the dough and this is the reason for the activity also being given the same name. As the cat starts kneading, one thought would be that the cat is sleepy and is getting ready for sleep.

The cats will also knead if they are happy and contended. As the cats can relax only when they are happy, the sign of kneading by cats signifies, that the cat is happy and is really contented. The cat will knead or paddle the paws when it is near human company. Humans are loved by cats and they will not only paddle their paws, but will also purr at the same time, telling the person that it is enjoying the time. So, if your pet is paddling its paws, then you should be happy and not be worried about it.

If you have had pet cats, then you would have heard the cats purring. There are various kinds of cat species that are kept in homes as pets. Almost all these cats have a similar method of purring. There are many reasons for the cats to purr. If you have cats at home as pets, then you must have experienced them coming near you and purring gently. This is because of the affection that the cat has on you. The main reason for the cat to purr is general satisfaction and happiness. When the cat is happy and satisfied, it will purr.

Since cats love being near humans and cuddling, they usually purr when they are able to get near a human and lean against the person. There are many other reasons for the cats to purr too. The cat will purr when it has food and if the cat likes the food. Similarly, the cat will also purr when it is feeding a young kitten. Since the animals are satisfied in these situations, they purr to let the people around them to know about their happiness.

A cat that is not friendly will not purr at all. This is because the cat may not be happy to be near a person or humans in general. This may cause the cat to avoid purring. A cat that is eating its food or enjoying the company of humans may purr to show that it likes it. So, the cats purr depending on the situation that makes them satisfied. This will help the pet owner to understand the likes and dislikes of the cat. This knowledge will help to further enhance the care given for the cat.

Pets generally do not fall from a height unless it is an accident. Many pets are very careful when they are in a height and try to immediately avoid the situation. There are some pets that do not care though. The cats are the pets that do not mind standing at a great height or falling from the height. The cats are sure footed too and so they walk in areas that can cause falls.

As pets generally do not injure themselves in a fall, there seems to be a righting mechanism in them that prevents them from getting injured. As far as cats are concerned, the righting reflexes are well developed. This is the main reason for the phrase ‘cats have nine lives’ to have become popular. The reason that cats do not injure themselves is because they are sure footed when they are at great heights too. Even if they do fall, their body structure is created in such a way that they are safe from getting injured. The first thing that is in their favor is that the bones are all light. The light bones cause the cat to be able to balance itself when it falls and does not fall with a thud.

The body of the cat and some other animals are created in such a way that they fall like parachutes. Their body which is in the center is high and the four legs act like rudders and so the falling animal guides itself that it does not get injured. Dogs may not fall from a great height, but they too are able to escape injury in falls because of the fact that they do not climb too high, like cats. If a person has pets at home, then it is the responsibility of the owner to try and prevent the animal from getting injured by giving proper care.

Pets are seen to omit all the time. There are some animals that keep vomiting each day. There are some pets that do not vomit often, but they do so on a few days. There are many reasons for a pet to vomit and almost all of them are normal. The pets may vomit if the food that they have consumed is too much. The pets may also vomit if the food that they consumed is not good. There are also times they may vomit for no reason at all.

There are some situations in which the vomiting in the pets can lead to some severe health problems and the vomiting may even be fatal for the pets. This should be avoided at times. There are several methods that can be used by the owner of the pets to help them to avoid vomiting. There are situation when the vomiting cannot be avoided and the pet may need to be hospitalized. The situations where the owner has to immediately take the pet to the hospital are listed here.

If there is blood present in what the pet has vomited, then it is a sign of a serious illness and the pet has to be taken to the vet. If the pet has been vomiting for more than a day or two, then it means that the pet can become dehydrated very easily and this is also a red flag that needs hospitalization. There are some pets that may have a gastric upset and may vomit as well have diarrhoea. This also needs immediate hospitalization and intravenous fluids are needed to prevent the pet from having fatal problems. The pet can have more than just vomiting as a problem. The pets can have lethargy and unsteady gait too with vomiting. This is also a sure sign of severe health problems needing treatment immediately.

A lot of people might think that when you are already struggling with a serious addiction, the worst thing that you could possibly do is involve your pets. After all, pets take up a lot of attention, and they require a level of care that a lot of addicts are just not capable of providing for them. But contrary to this intuition that most people would have, having your pets involved in your rehabilitation process is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. For one thing, they are great companions, and for another, the act of taking care of your pet is a great way to begin getting yourself back into the adult frame of mind—taking care of yourself, as well as another life form.

Consider the main reason that you have a pet in the first place. You want to have someone around you that is going to be your friend, even if you are not always the best friend in the world. With an addiction, your ability to be sociable and giving is sometimes greatly reduced, versus what it would be if you were not addicted to your vice of choice. When you keep your pet with you, even in rehab, you are opening yourself up to the friendship that your pet is happy to provide you with all of the time. You can use a friend.

Another reason why having your pet with you is a very good idea is that you need responsibilities. You can find rehab centers that allow pets at Rehab-International.org. It is far too easy in a rehab situation to just sink into the funk of feeling sorry for yourself and assuming that you are worthless. This is not true, and having to take care of your pet will help to remind you that you do have a lot of value to the world. There is a living creature that depends on you.

If you have pets in your house, you would have noticed that the pet does not eat at times. There are various reasons for the pet to not eat. This is because of some common problems. It is important that the owner of the pets try to do something about it and make the pet to eat. This will prevent the pet from failing sick or suffering from other problems.
Some of the methods of trying to make the pets to eat are listed here.

One of the methods that the pet owner can try to do is to make the pets have a different flavor of food. As the pets are given the same kind of food each and every day, it can cause the pets to suffer from boredom and the pet may not eat the food properly. If the pets are given foods that have a different flavor, then it will help in many cases.

If the owner of the pet is using a branded food item, then changing the brand in a phased manner will help in preventing health problems and at the same time, may encourage the pet to eat. If this does not work, then the pet can be given some food that is made at home. The best thing that can be added is gravy that has been made with onion in it. This smell of the food will help the pets to start eating again.

Some dogs may not eat the food because of the temperature of the food. They may be used to eating food at a particular temperature and when the food temperature is changed, the pets may start refusing the food that is given. To prevent this problem, the pets can be given food that is having a consistent temperature and this can help the pet to be encouraged to eat.

Have you been wondering why the pets that you have at home keep scratching on various surfaces? There are many people who have pets in their houses and have seen the animals that they have keep scratching and gnawing at the tings in the house. This can make your house to be messy, but you may not have been able to stop the animals from stopping to scratch the things.

You are not able to stop the pets from scratching because of various reasons. Some of the reasons are listed here. The main reason for the cats and the dogs to keep scratching is that the animals are territorial in nature and they scratch at specific places to mark the territory. In the wild, they may have to stake claim to a particular area by using these marks, but in reality, their instincts remain even though they live as pets in the house.

Another reason for the animals to scratch is that they try to sharpen their nails. This is used by the animals when they hunt. In the wild, animals usually sharpen their nails by scratching and the same thing is again done by the pets because of the natural instinct that they have.

There are also other reasons for the pets to keep scratching on various surfaces. The above mentioned ones are the common ones and the less common reasons are listed now. The cats and dogs may have ritualistic behavior and they keep using the same surfaces for their scratching. Other than the ritual behavior, the animals also scratch because they like to do it. When they scratch on the various surfaces, they have varied kinds of sensory stimulation and this is pleasing to the pets. This is another reason for the pets to scratch. Since these reasons cannot be usually modified, pets will scratch though you try to stop them.

Many new pet owners make the mistake of thinking they don’t need to train their new dog. They are working under the false assumption that training is somehow cruel, but this is far from the truth. In fact, a trained pet is a happy pet with a happy owner. Proper training means less frustration, because the dog is less likely to get into the pantry or scratch the wood finish on poker tables while you’re gone.

The Natural Hierarchy

Dogs are pack animals and enjoy living in a group with a leader. Because the human family substitutes for the pack leaders, a master is necessary for good emotional and mental health. If you don’t establish leadership, your dog will be confused and not know how to act.

Stop The Chase

When training your dog, don’t chase him. Sure, it will be tempting whenhe runs off, but this plan backfires. Soon, your dog will decide this is a fun game and keep running from you. If you’ve already made this mistake, just watch how they act. They’ll slow down, let you “almost” catch them, and run again. If you stop chasing, they’ll eventually come to you.

A Crate is a Safe Place

If you buy a puppy, the first training effort will most likely be house breaking. Although you don’t want to leave your pup in a crate all day long, there’s nothing cruel about crate training. This gives your dog his own space and makes house breaking much easier. Don’t forget to praise your puppy when he makes it all the way outside to do his business, and don’t expect him to be fully house-broken until around six months. The little training pads for use in the house can also be helpful.

Training your new family member can be a rewarding experience. For the best results, be consistent and patient. Your dog can only be as good as he knows how to be!

Have you seen your dog shaking? There are several dogs that seem to be shaking uncontrollably at times. These dogs have a reason for this shaking to occur. As the dogs shake, they may have some benefits from it. There are times when the dogs shake because of the presence of a disease or some other reason. If you have a pet dog, then it is better that you are able to understand the reasons for the dog to shake, especially in an uncontrolled manner. This may even help you to save the life of your dog at times.

The dogs can shake without any control if they are suffering from hypoglycemia. This is a condition in which the sugar levels in the blood have dropped to unimaginable levels in the dog. This may cause the dog to start shaking in a manner that is uncontrolled. This can be an emergency because if the dog does not have the sugar levels raised in quick time, it can even cause the dog to die. So, either immediate hospitalization of the dog for it to be given glucose to increase the sugar levels is needed or the dog should be given food, if it is able to eat.

Abnormalities in the brain of the dog can also be another reason for the dog to start shaking in an abnormal manner. There are times when the dog has stroke and other diseases. Even without such diseases, the brain can get damaged. The brain damage can be in the cerebrum or in the cerebellum. Each of these can be a very severe damage to the brain. Since the brain is the part of the body that has the central control over the various movements in the body, any damage to it will cause abnormal movements. This abnormal movement can be in the form of shaking. This is one of the reasons for the dogs to start shaking. Any of these causes that have caused the dog to start shaking should be controlled and this can be done by treating the dog with immediate hospitalization.

Sometimes even the best pet owners make a mistake — they leave the front door open or forget to lock the back gate, and the family pet makes an escape. Some pets are even mischievous enough to break free on their own. When this happens, you need to take action quick to ensure your pet’s safe return home. Most pets are just being curious and don’t realize that they need to stay at home to be safe and have a place to sleep and eat.

You should do the following as soon as your pet has run away from home:

Contact all of the local shelters to see if your pet has turned up. You can also leave your pet’s information so the shelters can be on the lookout, but if you live in a large area, you may have to check the shelters often.

Create flyers and place them all over the area your pet went missing in. Be sure to have the pet’s name, a picture, and description, as well as your contact information, so if someone finds your pet, they know who to contact.

Search the area on foot or in your car and get others to help you. This way you can spot your pet if they haven’t yet strayed too far from home. If you do this as soon as your pet goes missing, you might have a good chance of finding them early before any harm comes to them.

Contact your community. You can post a missing pet alert using Facebook or other types of social media. You can also place an ad on Craigslist or other online bulletins. You’ll be surprised at the response you get.

The more people that know your pet is missing, the more likely it is to get your pet back. So, don’t sit around and feel sorry for yourself — take action and get the word out.

There are many pets that need to be groomed and cleaned up. Cats are an exception because they groom themselves. They do not expect anyone to clean them. The method that is used by the cats to clean themselves is that they start licking themselves each and every day. This clears their skin and fur off all the dirt. This is a common thing that is done by all cats.

There is something that can happen when the cats start licking their fur. The hair that is loose on the fur will come off and the cats start swallowing the pieces of hair. This keeps going on for a long time and ultimately the cats have a hair ball formed in their stomach.

It is important to prevent the formation of hair balls in the pet cats because it can cause the cats to throw up this hair ball. The cats also stop eating when the hair ball is present in their stomach. It is also important for the owner of the cat to take some measures to prevent the formation of the hair balls. Even if the hair balls have formed, it has to be removed. Regular cleaning of the cat with a brush will removes all the loose hair so that nothing goes into the stomach of the cat. This is the best method of preventing the formation of hair balls in the stomach of the cat.

Feeding the cat with proper cat food will also help to prevent the formation of hair balls in the cat. This is mainly because of the fact that the cat food will contain a lot of fiber in the diet. The fiber is good for the cat because it will help the cat to emit the hair ball. If the hair ball is not emitted by the cat at regular intervals, it can cause the cat to have a huge hair ball that can lead to major health problems. Consultation with a veterinarian is also helpful if you think that your cat has a hair ball inside it.

By way of the English Terrier and Manchester Terrier, the Bull Terrier was developed from a number of other breeds. From the original two breeds listed, James Hinks added English White Terriers to the mix around 1850. Finally, after the Borzoi and Collie were added to reduce the stop, and Dalmation, Greyhound, Foxhound, Whippet, and Spanish Pointer was added to add agility and an elegant touch, the Bull Terrier was formally born.

The first Bull Terrier is known as “Lord Gladiator,” who in 1917 had no stop whatsoever. Color was added to address medical problems later. Generally speaking, Bull Terriers are healthy but have a few tendencies. Skin allergies, deafness, and other items can affect Bull Terriers. Grooming is notably easy for the breed.

Compared to earlier times, Bull Terriers are much more gentle. Linked to earlier predecessors, Bull Terriers are able to defend their owner, but are generally nice and loyal to their owner. They need structure and socialization to do well, and are not appropriate for most households. In the right situation, a Bull Terrier can be a wonderful addition to a household.

It is no surprise that Bull Terriers can be found throughout culture. You’ll find one in every book by children’s writer Chris Van Allsburg. In the late 1980s, you may remember Spuds MacKenzie in Budweiser beer commercials. If not, you might know Bullseye – the Target Bull Terrier.

Bull Terriers are truly a wonderful pet if given the right attention. They are a very loyal and loving dog that can be your new best friend. As an added bonus, Bull Terriers look great in pet costumes!

Do some research if you are considering a new Bull Terrier friend. If one is right for you, you will be pleasantly surprised on what one can bring to your life.

Many businesses are meant to make money, but very few businesses are meant to warm the heart. When it comes to opening a business, very few people consider the possibility of opening their own breeding business. Those who have dogs or other animals that are pure breeds can attest to the fact that that there is an enormous amount of money to be made from breeding their animals.

For some, this seems like a one-time deal, but for those with the mind of a business person, this can be a profitable business that can sustain for years. Of course, with a business like this, there has to be a battle plan and there has to be answers to some important questions.

Of course, to get any business going you will need proper permits, especially if the animals are of a more exotic variety. It should be noted that many take money for their dog breeding but don’t pay for permits. This is not technically legal in every place, but a call to the local city hall should let you know if you have any reason to believe that you need a permit.

With any business there can be a considerable amount of money made. The natural question is what are the income taxes on that money? In truth, all money that is made should be declared to the United States government, but much of it is not, especially when it’s a one-time cost.

If you are looking to make a business out of it, then money should be declared and you should take advantage of the tax deductions for the business. Supplies needed that relate to the breeding can be written off, as well as medical expenses for the pet since they are a vital part of your profitable business. Breeding is a rewarding opportunity to make money and make people happy, and if done legitimately, it can provide stable income.

Have you seen a cat falling? If you have seen a cat falling many times, you will notice something unique. The cat seems to land always on its feet. So, what is the reason for the cat to be able to land on its feet all the time? There are some reasons for this to occur. The main reason is that when the cat does land on its feet, it does not injure itself. On the other hand, when the cat does not land on the feet and falls on some other part of its body at times, there is a high risk of any injury occurring.

So, how does a cat land on its feet all the time is the question? The main reason is that the cat has a inherent righting reflexes. Even humans are able to stumble and still not fall if they have a righting reflex and balance. This seems to be developed to an extraordinary level in the cats.
So, the cats are able to land on their feet at all times. The righting reflex is the main reason for the cat to prevent injury and also in enabling the pet to land on its feet. Even if the cat starts falling from an upside down position, it is able to right itself and land on the feet.

The bones in the body of the cat are also very light. This is another reason for the cat to be able to land on the feet. The light bones have caused the weight of the cat itself to be very less. This has caused the cat to be able to land on its feet from any position.

The body of the cat is also in the position of a parachute when it is falling. This is another reason for it to land on its feet. As the cat starts to fall, it will start going into a position in which the feet are fully extended, while the body of the cat turns inwards. This creates the shape of a parachute enabling landing on the feet.

Pet dogs that a person may have in the house will be seen to be throwing up at all times. There are several of these pets that are normal and do not have any disease, but they throw up. This is especially true about dogs. Several dogs have been seen to throw up very often. This makes a person to wonder as to what could be the various causes for these dogs to throw up.

In reality, there are several reasons for a dog to throw up. The main reasons are listed here. The most common reason for a dog to throw up the food that it has eaten is because it has eaten the food very quickly. If the dog takes some time to consume the food, then it will be able to digest the food easily. What the dog does is that it will consume the food as fast as possible and this can cause the dog to throw up soon after consuming all the food.

Dogs can also suffer from increased bile production. When the bile is produced in the stomach, it causes the dog to have a retching feeling. This in turn causes the dog to throw up to overcome this effect in the stomach. Though the production of bile in the stomach of the dog is a normal phenomenon, there are times when the bile that is produces is excessive in amount. This causes the dog to throw up.

If the dog is given a variety of foods, then it too can cause the dog to vomit. The dog may be used to a particular kind of routine and also particular kind of food. When there s a drastic variation in the food that is given to the dog, then it can lead to severe problems and the dog can throw up. Maintaining the feeding routine in terms of quantity of food, type of food and also the time at which the food is consumed will prevent the dog from throwing up. Gastritis in the dog is another reason for the dog to throw up.

If you are student and earn just enough to make ends meet or receive financial aid to support yourself and to bear the education related expenses, you might be aware of the tight financial situation that never appears to get better. During such pressing situations, additional expenditures such as hiring someone for filing your taxes can add to the existing difficulties. Also, the packed college schedules, examination stress, and peer pressure do not leave you with ample time for getting your taxes filed the traditional way.

Thankfully, free efile allows you to file your taxes from wherever you get access to the Internet. Being a free alternative to hiring a CPA, you can now save on all the expenses you might have made in the past for filing taxes. You simply use the free online tax sites, to complete your taxes and submit them. These online programs allow you to electronically file your taxes, and also can determine the applicable tax credits for you, such as American Opportunity Credit or life learning credit. You or your parents (if they sponsored your education) can gain the advantage of a credit up to $2500 for up to four years during your education.

Especially in cases of the students who are receiving their education online, e-filing the taxes can be the most suitable and convenient option. In addition to saving you a good amount of money, it can also eliminate the trouble of finding a suitable tax filer. As a result, you end up saving your time and money both using the free efile. The money you save by cutting out the middleman, i.e. the CPA, can be used for your educational needs or for buying your objects of desire. Imagine how handy would it be to have some extra cash while you are making up your mind to buy a brand new iPod, a cell phone, or new clothes.

The Bull Terrier breed of dog dates to around 1835 and are known for two different colored schemes, the plain white and the colored, usually brindle. Many believe that the Bull Terrier was formed by mating a Bulldog with a White English Terrier, which are now extinct, making the Bull Terrier the own relative left of the English Terrier. After many years the Bull Terrier was mated with a Spanish Pointer, to make the dog bigger in size.

The Bull Terrier’s were used for dog fighting, when dog fighting was allowed and these Bull Terrier’s were the best of the best when it came to dog fighting. These dogs needed strength and courage which Bull Terriers have plenty of. This Bull Terrier was taught to defend himself and protect anyone who owned him making these the greatest guard dog. When James Hinks produced the first white Bull Terrier in 1860 these became known as “the white cavalier” in the fighting ring.
Bull Terriers are friendly dogs, but many people think they are mean; the common misconception for most dogs that are aggressive and protective. They are protective and aggressive only when it comes to taking care of their owners and will attack any that try to do them harm. As with any dog these terriers want affection and love, but ready to attack when needed.
A colored terrier is any terrier that is not white or white and any color, however; the color part of the dog must be more than the white on the terrier. The colored Bull Terrier was voted as a separate Bull Terrier species or variety in early 1936.
If you are looking to buy a Bull Terrier, contact any breeders in your area. These may be harder to find in the U.S. and you may need to look out of the country if you wish to buy a Bull Terrier.

The Bull Terrier was bred in the mid 1800′s as a fighting do and male companion in the United Kingdom. Since dog fighting is illegal in the United States these dogs are only for companionship. These dogs are small and only stand about 24 inches tall and weigh no more than 80 pounds in a male Bull Terrier and only 60 pounds for a female Bull Terrier. These dogs are very obedient and are extremely loyal and protective of their owners. As with any dog, Bull Terriers crave affection and love from anyone around them and are great with families. If left alone Bull Terriers can act out and get in trouble and are best for families that are home most of the time. Male Bull Terriers can be aggressive around other dogs, especially around other males; making them the only dog that needs to be in the house. Bull Terriers are easily distinguishable because of their tear dropped or egg-shaped head, with a very long nose. The neck and shoulders of the Bull Terrier are very muscular and their legs are very short. Bull Terriers are recognized as two different colors, white and colored. Colored usually refers to a dog that has more color than white, but the white can refer to a dog that is white, but may have a couple of spots of color. Many Bull Terriers will become deaf with age, many have vitamin deficiencies that need to be taken care of and some may even have obsessive compulsive disorders. Warm climates are best for Bull Terriers because they need lots of exercise, but should always be kept on a leash if there is a chance they will see other dogs because of their aggressiveness towards other dogs; it’s often best not to let Bull Terriers around other dogs at all. If you must walk a Bull Terrier walk him away from others.

When meeting a dog for the first time there are certain things that you should or shouldn’t do when approaching a dog. Some dogs are very friendly when meeting new people and others tend to be shy and somewhat aggressive and may not want you to pet them until they realize your temperament or may not let you pet them at all. Dogs tend to be very social animals, and if you are meeting a dog from a good family who has taken the time to train their dog around others, you will have no problem approaching these dogs. Even if the dogs are well-behaved there are still some steps you need to take when meeting a new dog for the first time.

When meeting a dog or even being greeted by one, the first thing you need to do is ask the dog owner if it is okay to pet their dog. If anyone can let you know whether a dog will be friendly or possibly bite. Most of the time, but not always, if a dog approaches you friendly you can pet him or her and it won’t be a problem. Even if the dog is friendly, always stick you’re your hand out so that he or she can get your sent. If the dog doesn’t walk away you can pet him. When petting a dog for the first time always crouch down and get to their level; then reach your hand out and gently pet him or her on the head. It is always best to remove hats and sunglasses when meeting a dog for the first time. Too many distracting items can scare a dog or make them very defensive. Just remember to take your time and if a dog doesn’t take to you right away, just give it a little more time.

Labrador Retrievers came about in the 1700’s in Newfoundland and was later exported to England at the turn of the century in the early 1800’s. Labrador Retrievers are one of the oldest breeds that are recognized today. These dogs were originally bred for sporting and tracking game. Labrador retrievers are medium sized dogs; females weigh about 55 to 70 pounds and stand at 21.5 to 23.5 inches tall. Male Labrador retrievers weigh about 65 to 80 pounds and are about 22.5 to 24.5 inches tall when standing. Labrador Retrievers come in three distinct colors black, yellow, and chocolate. Labrador Retrievers are great family pets their loyalty and commitment to their families and owners make them perfect for large and small families. Labrador retrievers are also very easy to train and can be taught a number of tricks. Teach your Retriever to shake, roll over, play dead and bring a ball back with no trouble at all; Labrador Retrievers are very smart dogs. Do not mistake that they are smart as you will not need to train them. All dogs need to be trained, however; some dogs are quicker to learn that other dog breeds are.

If you want to get a Labrador retriever do your research about the breed and find out if you think this particular dog will be perfect for your family. If your family is never home, you may want to consider a different pet because all dogs love attention and can get into trouble if left at home alone for too long by themselves. A Labrador Retriever will make a great addition to your home as well as make your home and family feel more complete. Your local veterinarian can always help you with choosing a pet that will be perfect for your home and family.

When an Akita breeds the size of the litter or the amount of pups a female will have can range anywhere from three to 12, but the average sized litter is about six to eight pups. The Akita breed is recognized by eight different organizations around the world, the most known organizations being the AKC or American Kennel Club and the CKC or Continental Kennel Club. The Akitas come in four different colors: brindle, white, sesame or red hair with black on the tips, and red fawn. Male Akitas weight anywhere from seventy-five to one hundred and twenty pound and stand anywhere from twenty-six to twenty-eight inches, making them very large dogs. The female Akitas are only slightly smaller weighing about seventy-five to one hundred and ten pounds and standing at twenty-four to twenty-six inches. Akitas are good dogs for any climate, but as a pet owner you should be aware that the shed their entire fur coat every year. The Akitas need a large yard with plenty of room to run, preferably in a fened in yard because they need lots of regular exercise. Be sure to keep plenty of food and water out as they eat often and keep a shelter outside so they can get away from any harsh elements. If you own an Akita always be sure to keep him or her inside when it is hot outside during and during the heat of the day; especially if you live in a warm area. Akitas have thick coats and you do not want them to get over heated.

Such a diverse breed of mixes, the pit bull terrier. You see all kinds of genetics behind them, originating from the bulldog and then mixed with a variety of different terriers, which creates the full-fashioned American Pit Bull Terrier of today. That’s not all there is to this “great protector” originally bred to guard children and the house. Little did you know that your everyday pit bull could have a unique genetic history of his or her own. As a matter of fact, it’s a possible contention that not every pit bull terrier is alike, nor is it common to come across a purebred. As mentioned before, pit bull terriers are technically mixed breeds already!

There are three different “pit bull terriers”: The American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Both American Staffordshire and Staffordshire resemble what we commonly know offhand as a “pit bull” with the only difference being the American breed tends to be larger than the regular Staffordshire bred out of England. American pit bulls tend to be leaner and more monochromatic in their color and are also known for their remarkable endurance and strength.

Numerous mixes with other breeds have become more common as well, creating a variety of different sizes and unique characteristics. For instance: a Great Dane mixed with Pit Bull Terrier has been known to create in the dog the ability to extend the ears. Pit bull terriers are not known for that. Not to mention the size of that particular mix is substantially larger than any other pit bull breed you can imagine! Pit bulls have also been known to mix with beagles, german shepherds, labs, or any other suitable breed for that matter (chihuahas, don’t try it!). Take great care in breeding them, though.

Just remember the “great protector” in what we all know as the powerful, formidable PIT BULL TERRIER. They’re beautiful dogs. Respect them.

If you’ve bred a pit bull terrier puppy, or even a rottweiler or doberman pinscher puppy, bear in mind this important note, and keep a close look at your puppy for signs–

The Parvo Virus can kill your puppy within a few days.

What it is, is a viral infection along the lining of the digestive system. Basically what it does is prohibit the little puppy from the capacity to absorb certain nutrients and liquids, thereby rendering your cutie from keeping up on the nourishment. For some odd reason, Parvo is more common to the aforementioned breeds–pit bulls, rotts, and pins. No one knows why. Generally keep watch of your puppies between the ages of six weeks to six months. That’s when Parvo hits, usually. Most adult dogs are already immune to the virus.

The symptoms are pretty easy to spot: listlessness, lethargy, loss of appetite, foul-smelling and runny and generally not healthy-looking stool, vomiting and even high fever. Over a short period of time if not given the proper care, a puppy can die easily from dehydration all because of Parvo. So, again, pay serious attention to how your young pet acts.

Unfortunately due to the imperative nature of this article, there is absolutely no cure for Parvo. A sick puppy needs to be monitored heavily and given fluids to prevent dehydration. Other bacterial infections as a result of Parvo are common, too. So be aware of that. Antibiotics are the way to go. Temperature regulation and blood transfusions are also a possible necessity. The body eventually simply fights off the virus as if it were a cold–hence the immunity at an older age.

Make no mistake, though–Parvo is serious business. So, again, whether you have a pit bull terrier, doberman pinscher or rottweiler, keep your eyes wide open.

Just like us humans to choose the most sociable animal in existence to domesticate: the dog. Unfortunately, time and schedules for the most part leave our lovable canines home alone in a crate, stuck on a chain, or behind the fence in the backyard. That’s a recipe for boredom and social dysfunction; dogs hate being bored. Why else would they bother chewing a squeaky toy? Not even a child would do that for fun! (Maybe some would)

The fact is you need to make sure your dog knows the house rules and prepare a dog-proofed room or blocked-off room where he or she can stay and occupy the housed dog with all kinds of dog bones and anything else he or she can chew. NEVER leave your dog in the backyard, even when it’s fenced. The result is a tortured backyard from dug-up holes, ripped trash bags with all the junk on your grass, and basic insanity from all the outside stimuli it runs into–other animals, other people, sounds, etc etc.

Don’t discount the crate, though. When used properly, a crate can actually be a dog’s den–trained right from the beginning as a puppy. It’s a safe spot for your canine when he or she wants to rest away from the daily bells and whistles of the house. Believe it or not, sometimes dogs need time away from the craziness! And a crate usually provides the relief. Overuse of it, though, can cause over-excitability and intense depression in your dog; generally, you don’t keep Fido locked up during the day only to have him locked up again at night. Bad form, Fido’s owner. Make him feel good instead.

The honest truth is there’s never enough social interaction for your dog. Walks are essential. Training classes are important. Interaction with other domesticated animals is also a helpful tool to build your dog’s social skills. Take care of your dog. It’s as simple as that.

One look at this tremendous breed, and you’d probably understand why most police dogs are that breed. German Shepherds might as well be Greek heroes–like Odysseus, or Perseus, or Hercules, or even Achilles! Don’t be fooled, though; while they’re tough dogs, they do have their issues to address and with which to contend. In the end, they’re flesh and blood and fragile like any other animal. So take note of some of the more common health risks associated with the popular German Shepherd.

1. Dysplasia

This health defect can appear in both the canine hip and elbow. The result without proper care can be one or more lame legs, severe pain, and eventually arthritis. Catch the disease on the early signs, and you can save your shepherd a whole lot of trouble.

2. Panosteitis

This is a more broad type of ‘dysplasia’ associating basic and spontaneous pain and lameness. Usually aspirin can control the discomfort with the possible use of corticosteroids for more severe cases. Over time, the condition does go away.

3. von Willebrand’s Disease (vWD)

The condition drastically affects the dog’s ability to normally clot blood. In essence, it’s a blood disorder and a dangerous one if your canine goes under the knife at the vet’s office.

4. Progressive posterior paresis

Like some of the other characteristics associated with Dysplasia and Panosteitis, (PPP) also renders dogs lame–but without any serious pain. It is, in fact, a neurological disorder and not a physical disorder.

5. Cauda equina syndrome

This is another neurological syndrome with a nickname: low back pain. Only for dogs.

Now, friends, if you can believe it, there are actually more health risks to keep in mind with this breed. So stay tuned. And give good ol’ Achilles a good paw-shake to let him know that everything’s going to be all right.

Two of the more majestic-looking dog breeds on the planet, the Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute continually charm the world with their energy and spirit. But what is the difference between the two? Both the Husky and the Malamute look remarkably alike!

So here are the differences for you to read…. BUT FIRST, consider the similarities. One, both breeds were originally raised as sled dogs up north, hence their wolf resemblance. The elements there would generally keep the phenotype relatively close to their distant wolf cousins–such as the shaggy ears, long snout, furry paws, double coat etc etc. So, yes, the Malamute and Husky LOOK like wolves. But look even closer, and you’ll see specific unique characteristics!

For one, Sibes generally have blue or green eyes. Sometimes they have one green eye and one blue eye. That’s actually part of the Husky charm. In contrast, look close and you’ll notice the Malamute has brown eyes! And there’s no variation of that either.

Another difference is their size. Malamutes have been known to pack on the weight a little more than Huskies, but for a reason. Historically, the Alaskan Malamute was bred by the Eskimos/Malamutes (and that’s how they got their name, too!) in North America, specifically Alaska. Whereas the Siberian Husky was bred by the Chuckhi in northern Eurasia, better known as Siberia. Now know this: typically the Eskimos dealt with heavier weight and longer distances, hence the build and power of the Malamute. That’s how the breed adapted. In contrast, the Chuckhi harbored a more pack mentality with smaller loads and quicker runs to save time, raising in these Huskies speed and agility. Another difference is temperament; Malamutes can be a little more hard-headed whereas Sibes go more with the flow.

Either way you look at it, both breeds are beautiful! But keep in mind this: the Husky and the Malamute aren’t looking to be casual lapdogs or anything. They like adventure. So, MUSH!

Picture a hunky, brazen and bloodied brute slowly appearing out of the swamp like a denizen of hell, carrying a giant bazooka. He even has those sleepy eyes and half-snarl on the face. Sad for those foreign terrorists and their fate; bullets stamp the fates decisively with this hardcore hit-man.

Now picture that same man as a…POODLE.

What? No way. If there was anything that didn’t make any sense, in fact made nonsense–no, wait, not even nonsense, just plain ol’ NON without the SENSE–the idea of a poodle named Rambo would be at the top of the list. A cataclysm in the space-time continuum would emerge, and we would all somehow coexist in past, present and future, talking to ourselves at different points in our lives, wondering why the world got screwed up.

The fact is poodles are generally not known for their ‘endurance’ or ‘strength’. We normally see them touted around like trinkets–larger versions of teacup chihuahuas. But you want to know the history behind this breed? It will, indeed, shock you. Bring your teacups, sit down for a moment, and read on….

Originally, the poodle was bred to be what is commonly known as a ‘water dog’. No, that doesn’t mean they can breathe underwater like fish; what that means is their hunting prospects were usually found in lakes, rivers, or ponds. Fowl shot by their hunter owners landing in the water became the poodle’s cue to rush in. As a matter of fact, the word ‘poodle’ was derived from the old German word pudeln, which stands for “to splash in water”.

That being a German derivative, a common belief of the poodle’s ancestry does lead to Germany from Asia as traditional herding dogs. However, because of Germanic Goth and Ostrogoth tribes and their game hunting, the ‘poodle’ was then adapted as a German water dog.

Bet you’ll never look at that tiny white trinket in a dress the same again, eh?

Images of mansions and green pastures are instilled in the minds of historians when thinking of the original “Golden Retriever”, the dog best known for his or her golden mane and stunning ability to obey and ‘retrieve’ just about anything his or master desires. Comes with the territory when dealing with royalty, particularly in Great Britain.

Because the fact is that’s where the Golden Retriever originated from.

Earlier breeds responsible for the formation of the Golden Retriever are as follows: the now extinct Tweed Water Spaniel, Newfoundland, Irish Setter, and several other water spaniel breeds. All combined comes your basic Golden Retriever in all of his or her glory; and we have to thank none other than Lord Tweedmouth of Scotland back in the 1800s. While in his estate in Inverness, the Lord wanted a breed of dog so loyal and gentle and yet so energetic and spirited enough to even like water, hence the term ‘water spaniel’, that with all previously mentioned breeds bred together over countless processes came the Golden Retriever.

Eventually, the breed made its way to the States, originally a dog of dark caramel-like colors and flat hair–much like a labrador. It then evolved into the Retriever we’re more familiar with, accented by lighter colors and even creams, with a much longer coat of fur. However, the temperament of the dog never changed. It is, by far, one of the most gentlest dogs known to man without being boring. The Golden Retriever loves adventure, and also loves to please his or her owner, arguably more than any other breed. And the enjoyable fact about the canine is this: of all the contests for the A.K.C. Trial Championships, the very first three winners were, no surprise here,. GOLDEN RETRIEVERS.

There is a dog that represents a “Golden Age”. It’s pretty clear that Lord Tweedmouth did well.

Prestige comes to mind when thinking of a unique-looking and rare-colored canine such as the Irish Setter, originally bred out of Ireland and used mostly as a gun dog. Taking a quick look at the history of the dog will bring about a massive family ancestral tree dating back to the 18th century. Once again, prestigious in age, but not ancient. Especially given the dog’s roots.

Mixtures of Irish Water Spaniels, Irish Terriers, English Setters and Spaniels and Pointers, and even a bit of Gordon Setter decorate the makeup of this strangely handsome dog. Its most defining feature, obviously, is its long reddish coat combined with phenomenal size and structure. The very first true Irish Setter (with the complete red coat) appeared later in the 19th century when the Earl of Enniskillen in 1812 declared he didn’t any other dog in his kennel besides that particular Setter. The monochrome red color practically became synonymous with quality and even royalty laced with the high marks of a top-notch show-performing purebred. Again, stressing the prestige of the breed.

After importation to the States in that same century, the Irish Setter became equally popular as in the British Isles regarding game hunting. They’re fast, sharp, and extremely obedient. However, due to aforementioned mixes of breed within that particular breed of Setter, in America evolved actually two different types of Irish Setter–”field” and “bench”. Obviously, the ‘field’ Irish Setter is proficient in hunting and generally thrives in the outdoors. But the ‘bench’ Setter tends to be more reserved and admired for his or her token good looks, typical of show dogs being that this classic red Irish Setter has a tendency to be a heavy contender.

Either way you look at it, the Irish Setter sets the stage for beauty and spirit. It is a unique dog, deserving unique praise.

They are nothing short of sweet, funny, adorable, energetic, easy to take care of, extremely sociable, and NEVER aggressive. With floppy ears and a heart of gold, colors like candy and a tail that never ceases to wag, this breed of dog is no surprise for the spot of “one of the most popular” according to the A.K.C. Registration Statistics. Not to mention this canine is one of the few you’d see in a comic strip.

Ever heard of Snoopy from the Peanut Gang? That’s your dog breed. The Beagle.

Originally an English hunting dog, the Beagle while operating in packs was ideal in catching smaller game such as rabbits. As far as history is concerned, these ‘small’ hunting dogs were the first true Beagles ever born. Derived from the French word be’geule, their name basically comes from the typical baying howl of most hunting dogs that alerted hunters of their prey. They’re generally not an aggressive breed; the purpose of the hound was to direct, not to kill.

People would like to think that Beagles are known for hanging around on top of a doghouse as Snoopy did and befriend balding middle-school kids and tiny yellow birds, but the truth is there’s nothing uniquely characteristic about a Beagle’s temperament except for the fact that they’re tremendously wonderful house dogs and family pets. Good with children, good with other animals as well, you’d find almost no problems with a Beagle.

No, a Beagle doesn’t know how to fly a plane as Snoopy did; but they might as well have had the skill given their intelligence. They’re mischievous to a certain degree, but only because of their noses. After all, they are hounds; so their sense of smell can rival superhuman strength. If not hunting for game, they’ll hunt for the garbage can and possibly tip it over. Don’t be too mad at them, though; those floppy ears deserve a little temperance and compassion.

You can’t deny the popularity of TVs possibly greatest dog breed ever conceived…. “What’s wrong, Lassie?” BARK. “What? Timmy fell down the well?” BARK. BARK. “You want a Big Mac with fries and coke?” BARK. WUFF. BARK. “Okay, let’s get Timmy and head to McD’s!”

Yes, the Collie.

Watching these dogs work is like poetry in motion. As they literally glide while running due to their extremely long coats, you can’t help but be mesmerized by their agility as well as their intelligence. Their origin is shrouded in mystery except for the fact that in the 1800s Collies were known to be herding dogs in both Scotland and England. That could definitely explain their high intelligence. You try herding cattle all on your own! It’s a tough job. But Collies never seemed to have a problem with it.

The breed became truly popular when Queen Victoria in in the 1860s visited the Scottish Highlands and fell in love with the dog. Collies became the fashion all over Europe, equal to today’s fashionable teacup chihuahua in Beverly Hills, California!

Although a devoted family dog used to the outdoors and activity, Collies are easy-going and understanding and adaptable to many conditions. They’re not against being couch potatoes, laying there by your feet calmly. Especially good with children, the Collie remains as one of the most popular family dogs and still continues to be such today. Just ask Timmy!

“What, Lassie? You think you’re a good breed of dog?” BARK. “Yeah? Do you want to go for a run?” BARK. BARK. “Maybe? After we watch a little TV and a snack, you think? WUFF.

As said before, the Collie’s an easy-going breed, never giving any trouble, not even any predatory problems. In essence, they’re angels. Effectively, Lassie’s home every time you look at any everyday Collie.

Consider the parallel of the Lion King on Pride Rock overseeing the land and the circle of life. Got to love Disney. Lions. Well, this isn’t about lions, or even cats. Rather, it’s about the similar standard of an animal group transferred to another one: dogs. Specifically the King of Dogs. You’d never look at another remarkably striking and stunning and almost imposing image of possibly the largest dog known to man:

THE GREAT DANE.

Essentially looking like a much larger version of a Pit Bull Terrier, the Great Dane actually has absolutely no relation to those breeds. Rather, its closest relatives have been known to be the Irish Wolfhound and Old English Mastiff. They’re actually an extremely ancient breed–actually much older than even the chihuahua. Drawings and ancient paintings in Egypt have documented something similar to these ‘large dogs’, and the shocking feature of that is the pictures date back to 3,000 B.C. Even Chinese literature stated of an early description resembling a Great Dane, and the determined date of that literature sits right on 1121 B.C.

As time moved on, Germans were known to use Great Danes to hunt one of the more ferocious wild animals: boar. Understandable given the Dane’s massive tough frame. They’re great guard dogs, but surprisingly gentle giants when it comes to social interaction. Great Danes are wonderful with children, but remember to consider the precautions regarding their overwhelming sizes. You wouldn’t want any accidents to happen. Also they’re generally quiet dogs, so sound headaches are never a problem. Their short coats make it easy for maintenance, and generally are easy to handle despite their giant structure.

Definitely the King of Dogs. Remember Disney and the Lion King and know that the same stature sits on top of that big head of one of the greatest dogs ever created by God: the Great Dane.

It’s an odd name. And don’t be afraid to admit that you had never heard of this breed before. This writer is inclined to think NO ONE has heard of it. The Xoloitzcuintli. That’s pronounced show-low-eats-queen-tlee. Yes, it’s a mouthful. And so is the dog’s long-standing history!

‘Xolo’ for short, the dog has been around for ages, one of the oldest and rarest breeds known to man. Surprisingly, too, the Xolo has been considered the first dog to arrive in the Americas. Across the Bering Straits, archeological evidence suggested that a Xolo actually accompanied travelers during migrations to the new continent. Bet you’re wondering exactly what that insane name means, Xoloitzcuintli. Derived from the name of the Aztec Indian god ‘Xolotl’ and the Aztec word for dog ‘Itzcuintli’, effectively meaning, apparently, “god-dog” or maybe even “spirit-dog”, there’s no doubt that in Aztec times the Xolo was considered a spiritual symbol of divine purpose within that civilization.

Both possibly hairless and coated, the Xolo reprises the rare role fanatically, looking like no other dog. Likewise, because of the characteristic some Xolo’s have in being hairless, the “spirit-dog” has been known to have healing properties with the Aztecs through the warmth of his or her skin to ward off conditions such as rheumatism, asthma, toothache and even insomnia. Xolo’s were even considered sentinels of a sort for households fearful of evil spirits and intruders. A “spirit-dog” indeed!

Amazingly, the American Kennel Club registered the Xolo as a breed this year! A remarkable feat for such a rare and old breed. Characteristically calm in nature and sometimes even aloof, the Xolo remains an easy companion in ANY household, period., requiring only moderate exercise and little grooming needs. A relatively easy dog to have as a pet–with a ton of spiritual history behind the breed!

Read Scripture and you might not catch anything regarding an animal with ears, a snout, a tail, and fur. But trust that those creatures are there. Surprisingly, you’ll read about leviathans and behemoths and even goats and cows (for sacrificing purposes). But NEVER dogs. Lucky for you, one dog that existed way back in biblical times still lives on today. And he’s a beautiful one at that–

The Canaan Dog.

If you’re on the up and up with the Bible, specifically the Old Testament, you’ll recognize the name ‘Canaan’. This dog named after a particular Old Testament tribe is a true Israeli breed. Surprisingly with this extremely old breed, the ‘Canaan’ actually resembles more modern-day breeds such as German Shepherds or Malamutes. They are, in fact, their own breed. Trained to guard the Israelite camps and herd the flocks, Canaan dogs are wonderfully trainable, not necessarily temperamental and pretty obedient to their owners.

Scarily enough, the Canaan was also employed by Dr. Menzel to anticipate Israel’s War of Independence and World War II to assist in mine detection. Hard to believe that a flesh-and-blood dog such as the Canaan can spot a mine without stepping on it–but that’s how trainable they are. They even proved to be superior to the traditionally mechanical detectors used by the military.

On September 7, 1965, the first four Canaans were imported to America, beginning the ancient breed right here and recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1997. That’s not something you’d expect every day from a common household dog–this canine is an apparent offspring animal of the Canaanites after God created the world! The next time you watch him or her chewing on a toy, remember that, and remember the Bible. You have a dog from Scripture in your house. Hallelujah, praise God….
